The Hillsboro Lady Indians slipped to a 1-4 overall record (1-2 in conference) Saturday night after losing to the Miami Trace Lady Panthers with a final score of 58-29.
Miami Trace led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter. At the half, the Lady Panthers were in front, 28-11.
Miami Trace extended its lead after three quarters of play to 46-19.
Hillsboro had 36 turnovers in the game, to nine for Miami Trace.
Hillsboro shot 12 of 29 for 41 percent, scoring four points from the free throw line.
Kaley Burns led the Indians with eight points.

Lady Tigers scratch Blue Lions
The McClain High School girls team pulled out a road win Saturday against the Washington Lady Blue Lions with a final score of 31-28, taking them to a 2-4 overall record (2-2 SCOL).
Washington battled from behind and had pulled to within three points on a three-point field goal by freshman Shawna Conger with 17 seconds remaining to be played.
McClain went to the free throw line and, struggling from the line the entire night, missed two free throws with 15 seconds to play.
Washington came down court, but McClain’s defense did not allow a clear look at the basket and the Lady Tigers held on for the win.
There was only one player reaching double figures and that was McClain senior Malea Montavon with 10 points. She connected on two of her team’s three three-point field goals.
Senior Lexie Barton had five points and a trio of players, senior Beth Montgomery and sophomores Maddy Stegbauer and Makenzie Montavon, each scored four points.
The Lady Lions hit 6 of 16 free throws for 38 percent.
McClain led Washington 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Lions 7-1 in the second period.
Washington won the second half at 17-12, but went eight points down at the start of the third quarter.
“We had Haithcock doubled a lot when she caught the ball and they couldn’t get in the flow of their offense,” said McClain coach Jarrod Haines. “Fortunately for us, they didn’t really hit anything from the outside until the fourth quarter. That’s when Washington hit both of its three-point goals. If we shoot free throws a little better, then it’s a different ball game. A win is a win and we’ll take it.”
McClain is home against East Clinton Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Tigers will host Miami Trace Saturday, with the j-v game at 5:30 p.m.

Fairfield boys beat Whiteoak 60-47
The Fairfield High School Lions traveled to Leesburg Friday night for a Highland County showdown against the Whiteoak Wildcats, leaving with a 60-47 win.
Fairfield came out strong in the first quarter with a 17-point gain over Whiteoak’s 6 points. The Wildcats came alive in the second quarter, though, trailing the Lions by one point with a 13-point gain to Fairfield’s 14 points.
By the half, Fairfield was in the lead 31-19.
Fairfield out-scored Whiteoak in the third quarter by 8 points, keeping Whiteoak at a 10-point gain while scoring 18 for themselves.
Whiteoak played hard in the fourth quarter, scoring 18 points to Fairfield’s 11, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Lions from the win.
Fairfield’s Jessie Current led the Lions with 18 points.
Whiteoak’s top scorer was Traeten Hamilton with 9 points.
