The Fairfield High School Lions scored 26 points in the fourth quarter to solidify their win against the Georgetown High School G-Men after a heated contest at home Wednesday.

The Lions lead in the first quarter with a solid 20 points to Georgetown’s 7 points.

However, the G-Men scored within the first 40 seconds of the second quarter, sending Fairfield’s defense into overdrive with multiple fouls, allowing Georgetown to make some gains, but it wasn’t enough to stall the Lions’ momentum. The second quarter ended with 30-19 on the scoreboard, giving the Lions a comfortable 11-point lead.

Fairfield’s hometown advantage held no sway in the third quarter, with the G-Men’s offense gaining momentum with 19 points over the Lion’s 8 points scored, bringing both teams to an unexpected tie by the end of the third quarter.

The Lions then bounced back into action with 6’3” Mason Cain scoring a 3-pointer in the first 35 seconds of the fourth quarter, while the audience roared at the prospect of a comeback.

Cody Gragg and Tucker Ayres had 15 rebounds between the two players, showing the Lions’ defensive domination of the second half. Fairfield went on to score 26 points in the fourth quarter with the G-Men making a nominal 16-point gain, giving the win over to Fairfield.

“Some of their pressure got to us, but I think the kids did a good job,” said Fairfield coach Everett Snyder.
