After clinching the league title Friday night with a close win against the Fayetteville Rockets, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs lost to the Waverly Lions Saturday by just two points. The final score was 56-54 with Waverly on top.

“This was a good non-league test for us,” said LC head coach Matt Carson. “We battled and they ended up making a few more plays then we did at the end. We’ll get better because of this game.”

Elsewhere on Saturday, the McClain Lady Tigers faced off against the Hillsboro Lady Indians in a rivalry game, sending the Hillsboro ladies home with a 67-35 loss.

“The McClain girls played well,” said Hillsboro head coach JR Moberly. “We struggled early on the offensive end, and let them build momentum. Never could climb out of the hole.”

The Whiteoak Wildcats boys team also bounced back for a win Saturday night against Eastern Brown with a final score of 63-58.

“We knew going in it was going to be a physical game,” said Whiteoak head coach Jeremy McGraw. “Coach Berlin does a great job with them and we knew we had to be ready. We have been playing a lot better the last couple of games — we just get to a point where we have a few minutes where we can’t stop the bleeding. We were able to do that tonight and battle back… I’m proud of all our guys.”
