Hillsboro travels to Chillicothe for boys golf, leaves with first FAC win

The Hillsboro Indians boys golf team traveled to Chillicothe on Thursday and participated in their first ever Frontier Athletic Conference (FAC) golf match against the Chillicothe Cavaliers. The Indians won by a final score of 207 – 252 and opened FAC play with a victory, the win improved their record to 4 – 5 overall 1 – 0 FAC.

The Indians were led by co-medalist Will Kiefer who carded a 45 at the Chillicothe Country Club. The other top three finishers for the Indians were Gavin Puckett who finished with a score of 46, Ryan Harless who scored a 57, and Bryce Bledsoe who achieved a final score of 59.

The Indians were also represented at the match by Jack Roades with a final score of 60 and Gabe MyCroft with a nine hole score of 61.

The Cavaliers were led in scoring by Daniel Haller, co-medalist of the match, who finished with a score of 45, Luke Smith who totaled 54 strokes on the day, Jason Burnham who shot a 67 for the day, and Katie Jones who rounded out the scoring for the Cavaliers with a score of 86.

Hillsboro boys head golf coach Nathan Boatman said after the match, “We are a young team, but, we are starting to turn the corner. Our freshmen are starting to adapt to the competitive environment out on the course.”

“They still have a ways to go as far as developing their game in order to make improvements, but, the effort is there.”, Boatman said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements our young golfers make throughout the season.”

The Indians will be in action again on Tuesday, August 15, when they host new FAC rival Jackson at the Elks Golf Course in Hillsboro. The match is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. tee time and will mark the second FAC match of the year for the Hillsboro boys golf team.
