McClain Lady Tigers volleyball preview

The McClain High School Lady Tigers varsity volleyball team began their season on Saturday August 19 at the Highland County Spike and Dig Tournament hosted by the Hillsboro Lady Indians. The season for the Lady Tigers will consist of 17 games and will wrap up on October 5 in the same gym that it started in when McClain travels to Hillsboro to face cross county and league rival the Lady Indians.

The team features three seniors, six juniors, and two sophomores. The Lady Tigers will be led by first year coach Taylor Alsop.

There are four returning lettermen for the Lady Tigers for the 2017 season. The lack of varsity experience is not a concern to coach Alsop, “The seniors have stepped up a lot and taken on the leadership roles for the team. There are also junior girls that have stepped up to fill the void that was left by the graduating class in 2016.”

“This team is very determined, they have all set their own goals. They have goals that they are trying to work towards and I feel that the younger girls don’t want to let the seniors down.”, said Alsop. “Our goals as a team are focused on what we can accomplish in the post season tournament. It would be nice to compete for the league title but, if we don’t and we advance deep in the tournament it won’t be a huge issue for us.”
