McClain finishes 3rd, Hillsboro 6th at FAC golf tournament; Trevor Newkirk named golfer of the year

The inaugural Frontier Athletic Conference (FAC) golf tournament was held Saturday in Chillicothe at the Chillicothe Country Club. The Jackson Ironmen carded a team score of 368 to claim first place in the tournament, Miami Trace was second with a 387, McClain scored a 400 for third place, Chillicothe was fifth shooting a 418, Washington took fifth scoring a 427, and Hillsboro placed sixth with a 430.

The final season standings saw the Panthers take first with a 9 – 1 league record, the Ironmen were second sporting an 8 – 2 league record, the Tigers took third place finishing at 7 – 3 in the FAC, the Blue Lions were fourth with a 4 – 6 mark in the league, the Indians took fifth with a 2 – 8 league mark, and Chillicothe was sixth finishing at 0 – 10 in the FAC.

On Saturday at the conference tournament Miami Trace was led by Hayden Walters shot a 97. Eggleton had a score of 98.

Cameron Carter had a 92; Heath Cockerill finished with a 100; Trenton Crawford, 105 and Drew Batson carded a 115.

The Blue Lions saw Brock Morris shoot a 99; Tyler Rood had a score of 100; Gabe Arazo shot a 108.

Brice Cartwright had a 118 and Ty Rose had a 120.

The Tigers were led by FAC Golfer of the Year Trevor Newkirk with an 84; Kobe Penwell shot a 95; Trenton Newkirk finished with a 98; Zane Mustard had a 123; and Caleb Pointer shot a 133.

The Indians were led by Will Kiefer with an 84; Gavin Puckett had a 103; Gabe Mycroft finished with a 116; Hayden Miller was close behind with a 117; Bryce Bledsoe shot a 120; and Ryan Harless finished with a 125.

Chillicothe saw Daniel Haller shoot a 101; J.T. Kobel carded a 101; Luke Smith shot a 111 on the day; Eli Taylor finished with a 105; Cuay McGuire had a 115; Katie Jones shot a 179.

The winning scores for the Ironmen were: Kole Weaver, 90; Ethan Mercer, 82; Aidan Massie, 97; Trase Speakman, 99; Cooper Donaldson, 108; Matt Moore, 107.

The FAC also released the names of the first-team All-FAC golf members: Trevor Newkirk, McClain; Kole Weaver, Jackson; Ethan Mercer, Jackson; Will Kiefer, Hillsboro; Tyler Eggleton, Miami Trace; Kobe Penwell, McClain; Daniel Haller, Chillicothe.
