Lady Tigers volleyball seniors Hunter Scott, Paige Hurley and Chayden Pitzer were honored on Wednesday at McClain High School prior to a thrilling match against the visiting Lady Green Devils of North Adams High School. McClain put on a show for the home crowd on senior night before falling 3 – 2 to North Adams.
The Lady Green Devils came out of the gate on fire as they ran up and early 5-1 lead in the first set. The Lady Tigers came right back to tie it before both teams traded several points resulting in a nine all tie. The visitors then put together a streak of eight points sandwiched around a Lady Tigers timeout to go up 17-9. The Lady Green Devils went on to win the set 25-18 to take the early lead in the match.
The second set was a reversal from the first as McClain rebounded from the initial setback of the first set. Late in the set with North Adams leading 18-16 McClain broke the serve of the Lady Green Devils and from that point in the set it was all Lady Tigers. Pitzer got the serve and delivered eight straight points to give McClain the set win. Scott and Hurley combined for two huge combo blocks to keep the run alive.
The Third set saw the Lady Green Devils cruise to an easy 25-17 win and a 2-1 advantage in the match.
The fourth set appeared to be heading in the same direction as set number three before the Lady Tigers roared back late and refused to lose. Both teams demonstrated that they wanted to win as they traded points back and forth after being tied at 22. McClain was able to pull out the exciting 28-26 set win to force a fifth and deciding set in the match.
In the end the Lady Green Devils were too much for the Lady Tigers to handle as they were able to pick up the fifth set victory by a score of 15-10 handing McClain a 3-2 senior night loss.
