Lynchburg-Clay’s Lady Mustangs soccer team advanced to the district semifinals as they beat the Piketon Red Streaks 8-0 at home on Wednesday in the sectional finals.

Seniors Peyton Scott and Taiyler Marcelino led the way for the Lady Mustangs on Wednesday accounting for six of Lynchburg’s eight goals on the night.

Scott was unstoppable in the first half as she powered in goals at the 32:27, 24:28 and 4:17 marks to give the Lady Mustangs a 3-0 lead at the half.

Marcelino got things going for Lynchburg in the second half as she netted the first of her two goals at the 36:19 mark.

Angela McLaughlin got into the action less than thirty seconds later to extend Lady Mustang lead to 5-0 with over 35 minutes left to play.

Scott finished her tremendous night at the 33:30 mark of the second half when she netted her fourth goal of the game to take any drama that may have been left out of the game.

With just under 15 minutes to play in the game Marcelino netted her second goal of the half.

Junior Riley Creditt finished off the scoring for Lynchburg at the 10:35 mark to provide the 8-0 final score.

Lynchburg-Clay head coach Dennis West said, “Our second half was much better than our first. Whether our intensity was not there in the first half, I don’t know. At tournament time you can not come out and take anyone for granted. You are playing, maybe, your last game. You have to come out and be ready to play as well as you possible can.”

The Lady Mustangs will travel to Waverly on Oct. 25 to participate in the district semifinal against the Zane Trace Pioneers.
