Draven Stodgel of Hillsboro traveled to Columbus on Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2, to take part in the OHSAA State Track and Field Meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University.
Stodgel, a sophomore for the Indians, took part in the Division II boy’s Shot Put on Friday and the boy’s Discus Throw on Saturday.
The Hillsboro sophomore finished thirteenth in both events. The D II boy’s Shot Put on Friday saw Stodgel make his best attempt of the competition with a distance of 49-06 feet on his first attempt. Stodgel threw 49-04.5 feet on his second try and foul on his last throw.
On Saturday in the D II boy’s Discus Throw Stodgel again put his best effort forward on his first throw and achieved a distance of 131-09 feet. Stodgel fouled on his second throw and earned a distance of 109-09 feet on his third throw.
Stodgel qualified for the OHSAA State Track and Field Meet via a second place finish with a distance of 147-04 feet in the boy’s Discus Throw at the D II Region 7 Regional Track and Field Championship held at Muskingum University.
Stodgel qualified for State in the boy’s Shot Put courtesy of a fourth place finish a the Region 7 meet with a distance of 51-03.50 feet. If Stodgel could have matched his qualifying distance there is a chance he could have made it onto the podium in his first year at the State Meet.
As a sophomore advancing to the State Meet, Stodgel has the opportunity to earn his way back up to two more times.
