Fairfield’s 4×800-meter relay team, consisting of Matthew Mangus, Bennett Hodson, Andrew Davis and Brandtson Duffie, traveled to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus on Friday to participate in the OHSAA State Track and Field Meet.

The boy’s from Fairfield continued a tradition of excellence in the 4×800-meter relay that has seen the Lions represented at the State Meet in 2016 and 2017. Duffie and Mangus have been members of the 4×800-meter relay team each of those three years.

The Farifield boys qualified for the State Meet courtesy of a fourth place finish at the Region 11 Regional Track and Field Championships in Lancaster, Ohio. Mangus, Davis, Hodson and Duffie posted a qualifying time of 8:20 in Lancaster to earn the right to represent Fairfield in the State Meet.

Eighteen teams competed in the Division III 4×800-meter relay finals contested on Friday at the State Meet. A loaded field of teams for the race saw the Lions 4×800 team best their Region 11 time by nearly five seconds only to finish in thirteenth place with a time of 8:15.95. The winning team from Worthington Christian posted a time of 7:50.92 and the last team on the podium recorded a time of 8:10.51 in eighth place.
