Friday marked the final home game of the season for the McClain Tigers and the team honored seniors Eric Anderson, Richie Everhart, Pat Fout, Kyler Trefz, Brandon Crum, Teagan White, Colton Mossbarger, Taylor Gallion, Dakota Elliot, Zack Jacobs and Trevor Tite before the game.

The Tigers were able to prevent the visiting Ironmen from being the third team in a row to score 60 points on them but still registered their seventh loss off the season 55-0.

McClain kicked off to start the game and Jayden Spires returned the ball to the Ironmen’s 45-yard line and Jackson used just three running plays to go 55-yards for the touchdown off of an eight yard run by Brody Landrum to put the Tigers down 7-0 with under a minute of game time elapsed.

Following the Jackson kickoff that went out of bounds and resulted on the ball being placed on the McClain 35-yard line the Tigers were flagged for holding on their first play from scrimmage and two plays later Anderson was intercepted by Jackson’s Landrum and returned to the 30-yard line to put the Ironmen in McClain territory.

The visitors did not waste the opportunity as they converted on third and six with a 23 yard strike from Jared Icenhower to Garrett Daily and Spires capped the drive with a 3-yard touch down run to put Jackson up 14-0 following the second successful point after of the game for the Ironmen.

After a three and out and subsequent punt return by Jackson to the 50-yard line the Tigers looked like they had found some inspiration when Everhart intercepted an Icenhower pass near his own 5-yard line and returned it to the McClain 18.

But the Tigers were unable to capitalize on the turnover and were forced to punt for the second time in the game.

Jackson got the ball back with just over a minute to play in the first quarter and only needed runs of seven and 44 yards by Spires and Brice Parks respectively to score again as time expired and they converted on the extra point for a 21-0 lead after one.

Jackson continued to roll in the second quarter as Spires, Icenhower and Drew Bragg all scored before the half and the Iron men converted two of three extra points and held the Tigers without a first down for a 41-0 lead at halftime.

Jackson scored one touchdown to end the third quarter and added another in the fourth to provide the 55-0 final score.

The win and a surprise 20-7 victory by Washington over Chillicothe on the road as well as a 47-13 win by the Hillsboro Indians move the Ironmen into a three way tie at 3-1 in the Frontier Athletic Conference championship chase.

Jackson will travel to Chillicothe next Friday, October 26, to take on the Cavaliers in a matchup that will go a long way towards deciding the eventual FAC champ.

The Tigers will be on the road as well next week when they travel to Hillsboro to take on the Indians in the annual Rotary Bowl rivalry game to end the season.
