Runners from Fairfield, Whiteoak, Lynchburg-Clay and Hillsboro traveled to Pickerington on Saturday to take part in the Division II and III regional cross country meets and the Fairfield boys earned a spot in the State finals on Saturday, November 3, at National Trail Raceway in Hebron courtesy of a third place finish in the team standings.
Ciara Colwell also earned a spot in the girls D III state finals as she finished in eighth place at the regional meet on Saturday.
Lynchburg-Clay’s Raelynn Ruble represented the Lady Mustangs in the event and finished 79th.
Mollie McCreary of Hillsboro took part in the girls D II meet and finished 97th out of 151 runners.
The Whiteoak Wildcats made their first ever team appearance in the boys D III regional meet and Hunter Morgan was the top finisher for the team in 49th place.
The Lions of Fairfield earned their third place finish courtesy of their top five runners Brandston Duffie in 20th, Austin Setty in 21st, Cohen Frost in 22nd, Bennett Hodson in 33rd and Gavin Campbell in 51st.
The Lions were outpaced in the event by the teams from Mount Gilead and Fredericktown who finished one and two in the event.
This year will mark the sixth consecutive year that the Lions cross country team has advanced to the State meet and the boys will be looking to improve on back to back fourth place finishes in in 2016 and 2017.
Fairfield will honor the boys team and Colwell with a pep rally in the high school gym this Thursday starting at 1:45p.m. for grades K-12 and students are encouraged to wear school colors for spirit day.
