Indians’ Gilliland advances to District Tournament

Members of the Hillsboro Indians varsity Boys Tennis team traveled to Portsmouth and took part in the Southeast District Sectional tournament where all but one member of the team was eliminated from competition.

The lone member of the Indians Boys Tennis team to advance to the Southeast District Tournament in Athens scheduled for Saturday, May 18, was Gabe Gilliland who continued his high level of play on the season and won three matches over a two day span to earn a spot in the 2019 District Tournament.

In first round doubles action Creed Mullenix and Gabe Adkins lost to McBee and Crabtree of Valley High School while Ethan Snapp and Austin Pendell lost to Gardner and Perry of Miami Trace High School.

In first round singles matches Andrew Gundermam defeated Thomas Hamilton of Gallia High School, Gabe Gilliland defeated Alston Lin of Notre Dame High School and Tyler Snapp defeated Sydney Barney of Clay High School.

In the second round of singles competition Andrew Gunderman fell to Todd Davidson of Ironton High School and Tyler Snapp lost to Grant Kuhlwein of Washington High School.

Gabe Gilliland defeated Matt Campbell of Portsmouth West High School in the second round to move one match closer to a spot in the district tournament.

In the third round of singles matches Gabe Gilliland defeated Tyler Hobbs of Clay High School to earn a trip to Athens on Saturday, May 18, to compete in the District Boys Tennis Tournament.

The Indians varsity Boys Tennis team enjoyed a renaissance season in the Frontier Athletic Conference where they finished the season undefeated in league play and earned the teams first ever FAC Boys Tennis Championship.
