Mustangs take OT loss

Georgetown — The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs traveled to Georgetown on Saturday evening and were defeated in overtime by the host G-Men, 63-58.

A strong second half gave the Mustangs extra life as they trailed by eight points at the half, 26-18.

A great third quarter propelled the Mustangs to a 36-32 lead, as they held the hosts to six points in the third frame while scoring 18 of their own.

The final frame saw Georgetown knock down a few extra shots and make some timely plays to take the lead at 52-49 with around eight seconds remaining. With time ticking away as the ball was inbounded, junior Brady Minton put up a three pointer from 25 feet away that sent the game to overtime.

In the overtime period, the G-Men would score first and not relinquish the lead, as they won the period and the game, 63-58.

Raymond Conner led the Mustangs in scoring with 17 points and 11 rebounds on the night, followed by Ian Waits with 15 points. David Giordano scored 12 points, followed by Noah Miller with seven. Brady Minton scored three points, while Blake Marcelino and Brady Chisman rounded out the scoring with two.

For Georgetown, they were led in scoring by Nate Kratzer with 17 points. Blake Tolle scored 15 points, while Carson Miles added 12. Josh Galley scored ten points, while Fred Linville scored five. Blaise Burrows and Keaton Shievely each scored two.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 14, when they host the North Adams Green Devils to wrap up regular season play. Freshmen tip-off for that night will be 4:30 P.M.
