Lions move on to the Convo

WELLSTON – The Fairfield Lions(14-9) will be making their appearance at the Ohio University Convocation Center for the Districts round after earning a victory in the Division IV SE District Sectional Final on Tuesday night, Feb. 25 at Wellston High School against the South Gallia Rebels, 63-43.

Lions’ Bryson Simmons led the charge with a whopping 31 points in the Sectional championship over the Rebels with the assistance of James Bentley controlling the inside play, Wyatt Willey running the offense, Tytis Cannon playing strong defense, and Reese Teeters had a great night coming off the bench for Fairfield.

“All three seniors played solid and kept the South Gallia Rebels from getting in a rhythm throughout the game.” stated Coach Josh Howland

Simmons started his huge night in the first quarter as he went on to score 13 of the 15 points for the Lions in the first quarter which helped take a two point lead over South Gallia, 15-13.

The Rebels came back within one point of Fairfield in the second quarter to go into halftime, 30-29. Lions’ Simmons scored eight points and Rebels’ Braydon Hammond added to his seven points of his 19 points in the quarter.

After halftime, the Lions tremendous defense locked South Gallia up almost completely as they held them to just six points and growing their lead, 47-35.

The Lions did stop scoring when the opportunity came to grow the lead against the Rebels as the held them to just eight points in the fourth quarter, Fairfield went on to score 16 points in the final quarter of play.

Fairfield Lions will be making their second trip in a row to the Convo for District semifinals to face the New Boston Tigers on March. 3, at 6:15 P.M.
