The McClain boy’s varsity golf team will once again be led by Tim Bolender who enters his eighth season at the helm.
Three seniors Alex Payton, Ryan Page, and Brett Snavely will lead a very young and in-experienced squad into the 2015 season. Trenner Wile who is a junior is the only other Tiger golfer returning with some varsity experience on the links.
One big plus for Coach Bolender is having eleven boys golfing this year which is up from last season when only six competed at the varsity level.
“Our numbers are up this year with eleven kids out which is a big improvement after having just six boys last season and only seven the year before,” Bolender said.
Bolender’s main concern heading into the new campaign is his team’s over-all youthfulness and in-experience which is quite evident with three freshmen competing at the varsity level which includes Trevor Newkirk who is the team’s number one golfer.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how this season unfolds, especially with a freshman as our number one man,” said Bolender “This team really seems to get along very well together and I just want to see them go out and compete every night,” said Bolender “We also would like to improve on last year’s record which included just three league wins.”
“We’re off to a slow start this year because of all the rain we had to begin the season and only having played in one match it’s been difficult to get a good feel on how we’re going to do this year, but we’ll get it figured out.”
Newkirk was McClain’s medalist in their opening match and will be as before mentioned the Tiger’s number one golfer followed by seniors Payton and Snavely who hold down the number two and three spots.
Wile will be the number four golfer and Page is the number five man right now. The sixth and final position will be held by either Ethan Johnson a junior or another freshman Kobie Penwell.
Clinton Massie is considered the league favorite to start the season.
