Lady Tiger golf team under new leadership

The McClain Lady Tiger varsity golf program will be headed by Jarrod Haines who takes over for Matt Shelton who stepped down to assume an administrative position at the school.

Haines inherits a very young and in-experienced squad that has no seniors and only one returning letter winner that being junior Veronica Olaker. Olaker has been a medalist in two of the three matches to begin the season which included a personal best score of 46 which she shot against Clinton Massie.

“We have four freshmen and several girls on this team that have never golfed competitively before,” Haines said “Except for Veronica everyone else on this squad is new to golf so our main goal will be to just try to get better every day.”

“I think once we can start improving on those individual goals we will probably be able to win some matches as a team.”

Olaker will be the number one followed by freshman Bryn Karnes who will assume the number two position. Number three will be sophomore Chantel Landrum and another freshman Maddy Stegbauer will be the number four player. Elissa Grate will have the number five spot and number six will be rotated between Cassidy Willis, Erika Martin, and Rachel Clark.

“Veronica (Olaker) is a great leader and is really good with our younger and in-experienced kids,” said Haines “If everyone continues to work on getting better individually we definitely will start improving as a team.”

“This is a great group of girls which makes this a very easy job for me.”

Hillsboro is considered the league favorite by Haines along with Clinton Massie.
