For the second consecutive year, Stetson University junior Joe Beery has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday.
Beery, a double-major in Philosophy and Russian Studies, maintains a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. He led the Hatters in all seven races this season, and he broke the all-time school-record for fastest 8K time with a mark of 26:25.85 at the Atlantic Sun Championship.
A CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree last season, Beery was also a unanimous selection on the Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference team. It is the fourth consecutive year a Stetson runner has landed a spot on the A-Sun Academic All-Conference team.
A native of Hillsboro, Ohio, Beery becomes just the second runner in conference history to win two-straight Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, joining USC Upstate’s Gilbert Kemboi from 2011-12.
