Tigers looking to improve for new season

The McClain High School wrestling team will look to improve on a 9-16 finish last year which placed them seventh in the South Central Ohio League (SCOL). The team lost in the first round of the state duels but had two wrestlers advance to the district tournament in Jake Badgley and Keegan Rawlins, both who went 2-2. Those two are also the wrestlers who head coach Shane Paul sees bringing back the most leadership.

“Jake and Keegan are our two returners I expect to get the most leadership from,” coach Paul said. “Newcomers senior Sid Wardlow, and freshmen Tanner Tite, Kyler Trefz and Ethan Taylor should add some firepower to our team.”

Coach Paul is hoping to improve on last year but knows his team won’t be able to make it to a higher finish because of numbers.

“I expect the SCOL to be a four team race this year between Miami Trace, Washington Courthouse, Clinton Massie and Wilmington,” Paul said on the SCOL. “We will be in the lower tier due to not being able to fill all of the weight classes and lack of experience.”

The McClain Tigers will have two events this year on their home floor. On December 17th they will host Chillicothe and Washington and will have their McClain duels on January 2nd with ten and junior high and ten varsity teams there to compete.

“We have once again raised enough enough money for a third new wrestling mat that will allow us to cover two gym floors with mats and make the McClain duels a reality.” said coach Paul. “We wanted to send out a thank you to all of our supporters that made this able to happen and who will come out and support us this season.”
