The McClain Tigers wrestling team began SCOL competition for the 2015-16 season by hosting a tri-match with the Chillicothe Cavaliers and Washington Blue Lions Thursday evening.

McClain split the matches, beating Chillicothe, 39-32 and then losing to Washington, 57-18.

One of the highlights of the evening for the Tigers was when senior 160-pounder Jake Badgley won his 100th career match.

“He’s got about 75 pins, so, he’s a prolific pinner,” McClain head coach Shane Paul said.

“With the low numbers that we have, for us to come in here and beat Chillicothe, (was big),” Paul said.

For the Tigers, Tanner Tite (126), Kyler Trefz (152), Jake Badgley (160) all went 2-0 Thursday.

“Court House is really tough,” Paul said. “Keegan Rawlins (a sophomore) had his first loss of the season at 132 against Court House. The kid that beat (Rawlins) wrestled him tough. Hopefully he can get better from that loss.”

McClain will be right back on the mats, this time at Xenia, Saturday. The tournament will feature 14 teams from Ohio and Kentucky, Paul said.

“We’re going to be battle-tested,” Paul said of that upcoming tournament.
