The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs basketball team welcome the Washington Lady Blue Lions to their home court on Monday evening for what was the final home game of the year. The Lady Lady Mustangs and their seniors ended their home schedule with a bang demolishing the Washington squad with a final of 76-41.

The Lady Mustangs’ defense was the story of the night, with their press forcing multiple turnovers in the first half, and them capitalizing on almost all of them. The Lynchburg girls doubled Washington’s points in the first quarter, and pulled even further ahead in the second frame to lead 45-15 at the half.

The two teams played even in the third quarter after the halftime break, scoring 18 a piece, but the Lady Mustangs added a little more to their lead in the fourth and final frame going 13-8 in the final eight minutes.

The Lady Mustangs had six seniors playing their final home game on Monday night. Marissa Mitchell, Emily Roush, Ali Little, Vanessa Thiel, Madison Wills, and Bailey Leininger all played their final home game.

“Tonight was a big night being senior night,” said Lady Mustangs head coach Whitney Lewis after the game. “Last time that our six seniors will play here so we were a little emotional. It’s bittersweet, so I’m glad we came out and had a really good game. Our seniors played so well. It was just a good night overall.

“The senior class has been with us for all four years, every single one of them. I can’t say enough about their work ethic, character, academics. You name it, they’ve got it. It’s all kind of a package deal with them so we’re definitely going to miss them around her. Sorry to see that this was our last home game, but I’m glad they got to go out on this note.”
