Hillsboro bowlers fall short over weekend

After a very successful season for both the Indians and Lady Indians bowling teams, the year finally came to a close over the weekend.

The boys bowling team were competing in the state tournament and finished in sixth out of 16 total teams.

After qualifying for fourth place in the round of eight, the Hillsboro team went up against Shawnee Lima. They dropped the first game 161 to 170. The boys quickly regrouped and won the next two with 230 and 196 games. In the fourth game, facing elimination, Shawnee struggled in the opening frames. The Indians came out firing with the front 7 strikes in a row to finish with a 246. Shawnee had to strike out from the fifth frame to beat the boys by one pin and that’s exactly what they did. In the fifth and final game, the Indians had a hard time recovering from the previous game and lost it 164 to 195.

“The boys absolutely bowled their butts off,” said Coach Jeff Miller after the game. “The boys had an amazing season and Coach Ison and myself are extremely proud of our boys and look forward to next year where we can hopefully do it again.”

For the Lady Indian bowlers, it just wasn’t their day.

“The girls seamed to struggle on the lane conditions,” said Miller. “

We had a couple of girls we were doctoring up at the very start but we fell short by 200 pins of making the cut for state.

ur girls are real young as a team and next year they will use this experience as fuel to there fire to do even better. The girls were definitely good enough to go to state but, as happens in bowling so often, one bad day on the lanes can take you right out of contention. That being said, I don’t believe that day defines our season. The girls shot their lowest game all year on their last individual game. That’s just bowling and we will be back strong next year.”
