The Lady Indians softball team won in a big way Friday night to close out a successful 2-1 week overall with an 11-2 win over the East Clinton Lady Astros.

East Clinton took an early two-run lead in their first at-bat and the Lady Indians were unable to answer. Kerstin Thornburg, who threw all seven for the Hillsboro girls, held the Lady Astros at bay the rest of the game and the Lady Indians came up in the second inning and batted all the way through the order and eight total runs crossed the plate to give them the 8-2 edge.

The Lady Indians scored once more in the fourth inning, bringing three runs to the plate to give them their 11 total.

Madison Snyder led the Lady Indians at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored with Thornburg, Hanna Breeden, Riley Moberly, Ashleigh Baucom, and Molly Ferguson each getting one hit a piece.

Thornburg went all seven for the win, allowing only six hits, two runs and striking out two batters.

“We were able to get a bunch of runs there in that one inning but we’re still not doing that consistently,” said Head Coach Katie Moberly after the game on Friday night. “Some of the younger girls are putting the bat on the ball and more of the ones you don’t necessarily depend on to it have been stepping up which is good.

“Getting two league wins in a week is always good but with rainouts and such, we’ll be playing Monday thru Thursday next week.

Kerstin [Thornburg] did a good job pitching today. She did a good job of keeping [East Clinton off balance. She hadn’t pitched in a while so she did a really nice job of using all her pitches and that’s what we need to do. We can’t depend on our pitchers to strike everyone out. We need them to get the ball in play and get some outs for us.”
