Lady Liosn knock of Fayetteville 6-2

Fairfield’s Koutnie Smith got the Lady Lions softball team (8-2,5-0) started with a bang on Friday night as they hosted the Fayetteville Lady Rockets and defeated them with a final of 6-2.

Smith’s homerun was a two-run homerun to give the Lady Lions a total of three in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Rockets finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning but Fairfield promptly answered in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own to make it 4-1.

Fayetteville got their second and final run in the fifth inning but again, the Lady Lions widened the gap in the bottom of the same inning, scoring two more runs to give the game it’s final of 6-2.

Leading the Lady Lions at the plate was Grace Larrick going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two steals; Carli Reiber (0 for 2, 1 run), Kaiti White (2 for 3, 1 run, 3 rbi), Kourtnie Smith (1 for 3, home run, 1 run, 2 rbi), Sherry Heckathorn ( 1 for 2, stolen base).

Kaiti White was the winning pitcher for Fairfield going the distance giving up seven hits and two runs, only one earned, with no walks and eight strikeouts.

The Lady Lions will host North Adams on Tuesday, April 20 with that game starting at 5 p.m.
