Local students receive scholarships from KFC

This month, 600 hourly restaurant employees at KFC restaurants across the country will receive $1.2 million in college tuition assistance from the Kentucky Fried Chicken Foundation thanks to KFC franchisees, including two local residents at two KFC in Fayette County.

The winners are Taryn Lowe of the Jeffersonville KFC/AW who will receive $2,000 for the 2015-16 academic year. In addition, Kyle Weddington also of the Jeffersonville KFC/AW, qualified for a $2,500 Rising Star scholarship for his second year at The Ohio State University.

Lowe is a 2015 graduate of Hillsboro High School and will be attending The Ohio State University in the fall. She will be majoring in computer science and engineering and plans on working as a software engineer after she graduates.

Weddington is a 2014 graduate of East Clinton High School and will continue his education for his sophomore year at The Ohio State University. He is majoring in computer science engineering and plans to seek employment at a software firm designing applications for computers and phones. This is the second year in a row that Weddington has received a KFC Scholarship.

Both KFC Fayette County restaurants are owned and operated by local franchisee operator Bagshaw Enterprises, Inc.
