The Highland County Special Olympics recently received $500 after a Facebook bidding war for a “Night at the Movies” package.
Hillsboro Middle School staff members and students recently put movie-related items together to raise money for the special olympics, according to Nathan Boatman, Highland County Special Olympics coordinator.
Boatman said he posted the items on the organization’s Facebook page and started an auction with a beginning bid of $150. A week-and-a-half bidding war ensued from March 15-24, until A-1 Tree Care, Inc. took the win with a $500 bid.
“We were overwhelmed,” Boatman said. “It was fun and exciting to follow every time someone placed a bid… We had a lot of people bidding for these items. We would like to thank all the supporters who supported our organization… It means a lot to us.”
