McClain’s Chayden Pitzer records 500th kill on Tuesday at home against Hillsboro

McClain senior Chayden Pitzer entered Tuesday’s Frontier Athletic Conference (FAC) match, against cross-county league rival the Hillsboro Lady Indians, needing 16 kills to reach 500 kills for her career. Pitzer achieved the milestone in the fourth set against the Lady Indians and helped lead her to to a 3 – 1 victory.

Hillsboro came out firing on all cylinders in the first set and put the Lady Tigers on the defensive. The Lady Indians were unable to maintain control of the set and allowed McClain to claw their way back. However, Hillsboro would not be denied and took the first set by a score of 26 – 24.

The rally that fell short in the first set continued into the second set as the Lady Tigers locked up the Lady Indians and took the set by a final of 25 – 8 to tie the match at one set apiece.

McClain kept up the intensity in the third set winning easily by a score of 25 – 15 to give themselves a 2 – 1 advantage in the match.

The fourth set saw the Lady Indians make a valiant effort at forcing a fifth and final set. However, the Lady Tigers would have none of it as Pitzer secured her 500th kill and propelled her team to a narrow 25 – 20 set win and a 3 – 1 match win.

McClian head coach Taylor Alsop said after the game, “We started off slow in the first game. We were down 8-19 when I called my second timeout. Rival games are always tough games to play. Chayden was also working to get 500 kills for her career. She needed 16 kills going into to the match. Everyone on the team was counting her kills, she was counting her kills and in the 4th game she got her 16th kill. I am really proud of the team as a whole.”

The Lady Tigers will be in action again on Thursday when they host FAC rival Jackson. The Lady Indians will also be at home Thursday when they host FAC rival the Blue Lions.
