The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs soccer team finished off another perfect league record season on Wednesday night, beating the Fayetteville Rockets 8-1 to win their third consecutive Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship.
Things started off early for the Mustangs, as Alec Elam started scoring off with a goal at the 35:30 mark in the first period. Kyle Luneke scored next with 22:31 to go and Noah Scott got his first and second goals of the total of three on the night for the senior with 20:46 and 12:26 to go respectively. The Mustangs went into the half with a 4-0 lead on the SHAC opponents.
Brandon Storer got things going in the second half with a goal at the 14:47 mark followed by a goal from Drew Pitzer. Fayetteville scored an own goal to give the Mustangs their seventh goal of the night.
Noah Scott finished off his hat-trick on the night with one last goal with just 55 seconds to go in the game to bring the total to 8-0.
Fayetteville’s lone goal came at the 12:18 mark of the second half.
The league champions will now look to win their first tournament game next Wednesday, a game they will host against either West Union or Peebles. Both teams Lynchburg has shut out this year.
