About Gary Abernathy:


Gary Abernathy is publisher and editor of The Times-Gazette and Highland County Shopper. He started his career in 1983 with the Hillsboro Press Gazette, soon serving as editor, then became city editor of the Marion Star and editor of the Portsmouth Daily Times. He also worked in government and politics from 1996-2011 before returning to The Times-Gazette. He is the recipient of many industry awards for journalism and editing. He is the father of four children, and he and his wife, Lora, reside in Hillsboro.

About Sharon Hughes:

Sharon Hughes has been with The Times-Gazette for more than 30 years. A natural saleswoman with a bubbly personality and a can-do attitude wrapped in a whirlwind of constant activity, Sharon started a number of projects for the newspaper and became involved in a multitude of community organizations and activities. Even after hitting the 30-year mark, Sharon says today that she has no plans to slow down or retire. “As long as God blesses me with good health, I’ll keep right on going,” she says. “With this job, your family can come first. Everybody looks out for everybody.”

Brenda Earley - Circulation Manager

About Brenda Earley:

Brenda Earley has been with The TImes-Gazette for more than 25 years. She has worked in almost all departments of the newspaper, and handles The Times-Gazette's subscription program, along with distribution and hauling. Brenda has lived in Highland County her entire life and graduated from Hillsboro High School. She and her husband have been married for 36 years, and have one son and two grandsons. Her hobbies include cooking, gardening and refinishing antiques. She enjoys flea markets, crafts and spending time with family.

Jeff Gilliland - Assistant Editor

About Jeff Gilliland:

Jeff Gilliland is the assistant editor of The Times-Gazette. He originally started with what was then The Press Gazette as sports editor in 1983. He has been in the newspaper business since then except for two years when he sold insurance.  Jeff is a 1979 graduate of Hillsboro High School. He received an associate of arts degree from Southern State Community College in 1981 and then attended Morehead State University where he majored in physical education and journalism. Jeff resides just outside Hillsboro and is married to the former Elaine Vance. They have three sons and three grandchildren.

About Ann Runyon-Elam:

Ann Runyon-Elam started with The Times-Gazette in 1994, and she has worked in nearly all aspects of the newspaper business, including the mailroom, circulation department, performing order entry, and classified advertising. She is a 1988 graduate of Fairfield High School. She lives in Hillsboro with her husband, David. In her spare time she enjoys going to the movies and car shows with David, and shopping with her mother.
