The Warren County garden clubs hosted the Region 16 Spring Regional meeting on May 9 at Christ Church in Bellbrook.

The meeting was attended by members of Bellbrook, Clear Creek, Fayette, Hillsboro, Open Gate, Osborn Historic, Red Bud, Valley View, Washington and Wilmington garden clubs, as well as representatives of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs (OAGC).

The day began with Joyce Thomas welcoming the attendees. District 16 Regional Director Carol Gorby called the business meeting to order.

After the minutes of the fall 2018 meeting were approved and the regional chair reports were given, OAGC awards were announced. Ruth Anna Duff, a member of the Hillsboro Garden Club, was presented with a certificate recognizing her as an outstanding amateur gardener of District 16. Barbara Myers was presented with an award for being an outstanding garden club member.

April being Ohio Native Plant Month, volunteers were asked to help introduce native plants around the John Bryan Park’s entrance.

The morning program was “Attracting Pollinators to Your Garden” given by Pamela Bennett. After a delicious lunch buffet, the afternoon program on “Our Yards Are for the Birds” was given by Nan and Mark Plunkett.

The Madison Garden Club invited everyone to the fall Regional meeting in October, and raffle and auction winners were announced.

The Hillsboro Garden Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month, March through November, at Floral Hall on the Highland County Fairgrounds. Visit the club’s Facebook page (Hillsboro Garden Club) for more information.
