Highland County Sheriff’s Office reports

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Feb. 11-17, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 267 911 calls, answered 117 requests for service, dispatched 148 fire and EMS runs, took 25 offense reports and investigated one traffic crash.

At 11:15 p.m. on Feb. 11 a deputy was dispatched to investigate a suspicious person complaint on Bald Knob Road. A citizen called the sheriff’s office after seeing an unknown person riding an all-terrain vehicle near a neighbor’s residence. The deputy checked the premises and patrolled the area. Everything was found to be secure.

On Feb. 13 at 7:41 a.m. the sheriff’s office received a report of a theft from a vehicle parked at a business on U.S. Route 50 in Paint Township. Sometime overnight the complainant’s work vehicle was entered and several items were taken, including chainsaws. An offense report was taken and the incident remains under investigation.

Deputies were dispatched to the 3000 block of SR 41 at 2:16 a.m. on Feb. 14 to investigate a prowler and attempted theft complaint. The homeowner called the sheriff’s office after seeing someone near his vehicle attempting to steal gasoline. Deputies checked the property, but no evidence of foul play was found. No report was taken.

A Beechwood Lane resident called the sheriff’s office at 5:47 p.m. on Feb. 15 to report a burglary and theft. The suspect broke in through the home’s back door and made off with several items. Deputies collected evidence from the scene and took an offense report. The crime is still under investigation.
