Highland County Sheriff’s Office reports

Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Oct. 21-27, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 245 911 calls, answered 100 requests for service, dispatched 117 fire and EMS runs, took 32 offense reports and investigated three traffic crashes.

At 7:19 p.m. on Oct. 21, an employee of a North Shore Drive business called the sheriff’s office to report a theft. A male was witnessed taking several items from the store without paying for them. A deputy took an offense report and theft charges were filed on the suspect.

On Oct. 24, at 2:45 a.m. the sheriff’s office received a call from the 4000 block of U.S. Route 50 reporting an attempted theft. The complainant caught a male suspect going through her vehicle, but he was chased off by her canine. A deputy checked the area. No suspect was located.

Deputies were dispatched to the 1000 block of SR 247 at 11:07 p.m. on Oct. 24, to investigate a domestic dispute. A male family member was on the premises causing a disturbance after being told repeatedly to leave. Deputies arrived and placed James B. Birkhimer, 44, of Hillsboro, under arrest for an outstanding warrant from Hillsboro Municipal Court. He was transported to the Highland County Justice Center for booking.

At 3:26 p.m. on Oct. 27, the sheriff’s office received a theft complaint from a residence in the 11000 block of U.S. Route 50. Several items had been taken from a barn on the property during the past two weeks. A deputy responded to the scene to collect evidence and complete an offense report. The incident remains under investigation.
