Pancake and sausage breakfast
The Lynchburg Lions Club will have its monthly pancake and sausage breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Lynchburg Lions Club/Gun Club Building on Sharpsville Road. from 8-11 a.m. It will feature an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast plus other items such as sausage gravy and biscuits. The public is invited.
Sign language classes
Spark Creative Artspace will offer a series of three classes focusing on introducing people to American Sign Language (ASL), is a major method of communications for people with hearing loss. Tom Schluep and others will conduct the series of three sessions at Spark’s studios at 251 Jefferson St., Greenfield. Classes will begin Oct. 3 and continue on the 10th, and 17th. Classes will begin at 1 p.m. and last up to two hours in length. All materials will be provided. Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 (behind the Dairy Queen) will hold an all-you-can-eat dinner including fish, fries, slaw, hush puppies and soft drinks from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. The dinner is open to the public.
Deer Hunters Banquet
The Highland County Deer Hunters Banquet will be held Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Wharton Building on the Highland County Fairgrounds. Games, a raffle and social hour begin at 5 p.m. with a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. The group’s purpose is to raise funds in support for education, habitat preservation, and preservation of the hunting tradition for the benefit of whitetail deer and other wildlife. Historical Society annual meeting
The annual meeting of the Highland County Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5 in the Highland County Administration Building Basement Meeting Room. All members are urged to attend.
Guns and More Guns event

The Hillsboro Zoning and Annexation Committee will hold a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 in the Municipal Court at 130 Homestead Drive to hear comments and answer questions regarding the annexation of unincorporated properties surrounded by incorporated properties, referred to as “unincorporated islands.” within the City of Hillsboro, Ohio. The hearing is open to the public.
Humane Society annual meeting
The Highland County Humane Society will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21 in the large basement meeting room in the Highland County Administration Building in Hillsboro. The meeting is open to anyone interested in supporting the Humane Society as it plans upcoming and 2016 events.
Vascular screening event
The Highland County Health Department will host a vascular screening event for patients 50 years of age or older. Screenings will be performed by The Christ Hospital. The non-invasive, painless screenings are effective in detecting three prevalent vascular diseases; carotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and abdominal aortic aneurysms. The event will be held Oct. 20, 22, 27 and 29 at the health department, 1487 N. High St., Hillsboro. The cost of the screening is $60.
