Kristin Jamieson, a junior at Hillsboro High School (HHS), returned home Thursday after a five days spent competing in The Optimist International Junior Golf Championship held at the PGA National Resort in West Palm Beach, Florida. Jamieson finished the tournament tied for 31st place out of 140 golfers in her age group.

Jamieson qualified for the tournament earlier this summer in one of two Optimist qualifying tournaments held in Ohio. She was one of seven girls in her age group to qualify for the championship from Ohio.

The junior golf championship tournament featured boys and girls representing 42 states, six Canadian provinces and 23 total nations.

The tournament was a five day event starting with a practice round on Saturday, July 29. Round 1 began on Sunday, July 30 and she played an 18 hole round each day until Tuesday.

After Tuesday’s round they cut to the top 40 players and they played the final round on Wednesday, August 2nd. Kristin played the Fazio course three times, and the Squire course once. Her overall score for the four rounds was a 309 with Jamieson shooting 77 – 80 – 76 – 76.

Jamieson is one of the top female golfers in the state and qualified for the state tournament in 2016 becoming the first state qualifier for girls golf at HHS. She is one of the key returning members of the HHS golf team for the upcoming season.
