FHS Lady Lions bury Lucasville Indians

CHILLICOTHE — The Fairfield Lady Lions travelled to Veterans Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe for a softball/baseball doubleheader with the Lucasville Valley Indians. Fairfield continued its relentless offense pounding out 15 hits to defeat the Lucasville Valley Lady Indians 21-5 in five innings.

The Fairfield Lady Lions (11-2 overall and 5-0 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference) offense had six players with two hits each in the 15-hit parade including six for extra bases. Emmi Vance hit her second home run of the season in the third inning.

After a scoreless first inning, Fairfield erupted for 15 runs in the second inning. Both teams played through a light rain in the third inning that affected both pitchers’ ability to grip the ball. Valley scored five runs in the top of the third inning and Fairfield answered with six runs in the bottom of the third inning to complete the scoring.

Leading hitters for the Lady Lions: Halle Hamilton (2 for 4, 2 walks, triple, 3 runs, 3 RBI ), Jobey Hattan (2 for 3, double, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Caitlyn Quickle (2 for 3, walk, 3 runs, 3 RBI), Emmi Vance (1 for 3, home run, 1 run, 2 RBI), Sydney Sanders (2 for 3, double, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Faith Miller (1 for 3, walk, 2 runs), Hannah Hamilton (1 for 4, 2 runs), Carly Sanders (2 for 2, 2 doubles, 3 runs, 4 RBI), and Sydney Hooper (2 for 2, walk, 3 runs).

Quickle (7-1) was the winning pitcher for Fairfield: In five innings of work she allowed five runs (all earned) on hits and three walks while striking out nine.

Emilee Johnson suffered the loss for Valley. In four innings of work she allowed 21 runs (12 earned) on 15 hits and nine walks while striking out three.

Fairfield was to play Tuesday at West Union. They are at Peebles Wednesday for a 5 p.m. and host Fayetteville at 5 p.m. Thursday.
