This year at the 2017 Highland County Fair the Hillsboro FFA had nine goat exhibitors. These nine did exceptionally well in their Market Show, Outstanding Market Exhibitor (OME), County Born and Bred, and the Utility Class.

In the Utility Class, Ashlie Hillyer had the Grand Champion Doe overall and Claire Wilkin had the Reserve Grand Champion Doe Overall. Heather Burba also had a Division Champion and Division Reserve Champion with two of her Doe’s.

In the County Born and Bred class, Kelcie Thornburgh had the Grand Champion Wether Highland County Born and Bred. Ashlie Hillyer had the third overall Highland County Born and Bred Wether. Lana Grover also placed in the Highland County Born and Bred and she placed fifth overall. In addition Grant Crum, Attie Johnson, Hillary Hamilton, and Christine Page also exhibited goats.

The Hillsboro FFA Chapter also had kids that competed for the Outstanding Market Exhibitor. In the 14-year-old Division, Kelcie Thornburgh was first in her division. Ashlie Hillyer was first in her 15-year-old age Division and also was the 2017 Highland County Goat ambassador. In the lightweight division, Thornburgh was Grand Champion with her Boer Wether. Hillyer placed first in her class with her Wether goat in the market show. The 2017 Harness Goat Grand Champion was exhibited by Haley Hughes.

The 2017 Grand Champion Market goat was exhibited by a Hillsboro FFA member Claire Wilkin. She said, “The experience was really great and I was relieved in the end that my hard work paid off.”
