Janice M. Myers of Bradenton, Fla., was born in Hillsboro in July of 1935 to Barrett and Laura Williams. Since then, family members say, she has lived a remarkable life and found success nationally and internationally, in ways that serve as an inspiration to others.
From 1988 to 2012, Myers served as executive vice president of S.C. Myers & Associates, Inc., a construction management company she co-founded with her husband, Sylvester C. Myers, in Washington, D.C., after Mr. Myers completed an 11-year assignment with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Ms. Myers is retired from the National Education Association (NEA) in Washington, D.C. with 30 years of service. Prior to retirement from NEA in 1985, Ms. Myers served as manager and staff liaison of the Student NEA, composed of 25,000 college students who were studying to become teachers. Following a majority vote of NEA staff managers, Ms. Myers served one term as president of the NEA Middle Management Association.
Between 1988 and 1991, Ms. Myers served as senior administrative assistant to the director of the U.S.-Saudi Arabian Joint Economic Commission (JECOR), in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the deputy assistant secretary (Arabian Peninsula Affairs), Department of the Treasury, in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Myers is a former vice president of the Woman’s National Democratic Club of Washington, D.C. She served on former D.C. Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly’s advisory and finance committees, the DC Chamber of Commerce Women’s Committee Advisory Board, the National Federation of Black Women Business Owners Advisory Committee, the Women’s Committee of the National Symphony Orchestra, and is an active member of the United Nations Women Association (UNW-USA), Gulf Coast Chapter. Ms. Myers holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Antioch College of Yellow Springs.
