David Wright has joined the staff of The Times-Gazette as the newspaper’s new sports editor.
Wright is an experienced journalist, having previously served as an editorial assistant and then staff reporter for the Wilmington News Journal, covering breaking news, the courts, politics and writing feature stories on local people and events in southwest Ohio. He has also been a contributor to Salt magazine. He is the brother of former Times-Gazette city editor Katie Wright.
The Clinton County native is a graduate of the Leadership Clinton Youth Collaborative, and attended numerous classes and workshops on community involvement.
Gary Abernathy, publisher and editor of The Times-Gazette, welcomed Wright to the staff.
“David is a motivated and enthusiastic young man whose contributions will go beyond sports,” said Abernathy, who said that Wright will also contribute features and occasionally cover other events.
Wright recently spent nine months in China as part of Campus Target, a non-profit missions organization.
“I’m excited about tackling this new challenge,” said Wright. “I look forward to working with the schools and coaches in Highland County to highlight the achievements of our student athletes.”
