Grilling for the community

Members of the Merchants National Bank Board of Directors grill up some burgers Friday outside the bank as part of the bank’s annual customer appreciation cookout. Merchants staff served about 1,000 people with a free meal around lunchtime, according to Bertha Hamilton, one of the coordinators of the event. Hamilton told The Times-Gazette that the bank has been putting the event on for at least 15 years as a way to give back to the community and their customers. “We have a lot of people who really look forward to this, and it’s just a way to say thank you to our customers and the community,” Hamilton said.
