Remick Daniel Lee Ramsey of Greenfield is serving a year in prison after being convicted in three Fayette County cases.
His 2017 indictments include breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony; possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony; theft, a misdemeanor of the first degree; failure to register, a fourth-degree felony, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; obstructing official business, a second-degree misdemeanor; and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a burglary in progress Nov. 2, 2016 in the 7000 area of SR 753 in Good Hope.
Upon arriving at the scene a deputy sheriff saw a vehicle in the driveway. The door was unlocked and it did not appear that there had been a forced entry, according to the officer’s report.
The officer said at that time there were two people standing across the street beside a truck that was running. One of the people was identified as Remick Daniel Lee Ramsey, 29, and a records check found that he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on a charge in Clinton County. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Clinton County Jail.
Neighbors to the house said they called 911 after they saw someone inside moving around with a flashlight, reports said.
The house owner was contacted and said the house was a rental property. The owner did a walk-through of the house and said its furnace was missing.
Neighbors to the house reported Ramsey had known the previous tenants and had asked them if the house’s furnace was gas or electric because he stated that he was going to return to steal it, according to reports.
The furnace was later located in the back of the pick-up that had been outside running. Ramsey denied the furnace was stolen from the house and told authorities it was his. He was charged with breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony; possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony; and theft, a misdemeanor of the first degree.
In a second case Ramsey was indicted in January for failure to register, a fourth-degree felony, after failing to notify the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office of his new address.
Ramsey had provided an address for the 7000 area of SR 753 in Good Hope. Upon doing an address verification check in December of 2016, a deputy sheriff reported the residence appeared to be vacant. A nearby neighbor said no one lived in the house, but that there were people who came to pick things up or drop things off on occasion.
Two months later Ramsey was charged in a third case after he was stopped in a vehicle in Washington C.H. He had an outstanding warrant in Fayette County and attempted to give an officer a fake identity, but they were able to figure out who he was by checking his photo on file with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. A pipe used for ingesting drugs and a bag of suspected methamphetamine was located in the truck under the seat.
Ramsey was arrested on the outstanding warrant and charged with aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; obstructing official business, a second-degree misdemeanor; and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
Ramsey’s three cases were heard in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas and sentencing was ordered in May.
He pled guilty to failure to register, a fourth-degree felony; aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; and theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. The other charges were dismissed by the state.
Ramsey was ordered to serve six months in prison for failing to register and a consecutive six months for aggravated possession of drugs. He was ordered to serve 180 days in the Fayette County Jail for the theft charge.
As a part of sentencing, Ramsey was ordered to pay the costs for prosecution in the three cases which amounts to a total of $1,605. He was credited with 76 days of jail time credit for days already served on the charges and transported to the Correctional Reception Center in Orient to commence his prison sentence.
