On Wednesday, March 19, the Hillsboro Police Department responded to the 900 block of Dunlap Road for a neighbor dispute. Upon officers arrival, it was discovered that after a verbal argument, Jessica Griffith, 31, of Hillsboro scratched a female with her keys in the neck and punched her. Visible injuries were on the victim. Griffith was arrested and transported to the Highland County Justice Center and charged with assault, a misdemeanor of the first degree.
On March 25, the Hillsboro Police Department responded to a reported crash at the intersection of South High Street and East Street. Upon officer arrival, it was found that Jesse T. Brock, 29, of Hillsboro, operating a 1995 Dodge truck, was headed northbound on South High Street and attempted to make a westbound turn onto West South Street. Brock failed to yield to oncoming southbound traffic on South High Street and struck Suzanne Ouellette’s, 31, of Hillsboro, Chevrolet Trailblazer. Brock was cited for failure to yield while turning left.
On Tuesday, March 25, the Hillsboro Police Department responded to Kmart for a juvenile that was being detained for shoplifting. Upon officer arrival, a Loss Prevention associate advised that she had witnessed the 12-year-old juvenile in the store take a pair of socks and headphones out of the packages and conceal them in her purse. The Loss Prevention associate advised the juvenile then attempted to leave Kmart without paying for the items. Loss Prevention detained the juvenile with other family members that she was with. All items were recovered in the juvenile’s purse. The juvenile was charged with theft.
On March 26, the Hillsboro Police Department responded to a crash in the 100 block of South Elm Street. Upon officer arrival, it was found that Joshua Mahan, 25, of Hillsboro, operating a 2003 Chevrolet truck, was headed northbound on South Elm Street. Russell B. Wickam, 33 of Hillsboro, operating a 2014 Ford Focus, exited the Speedway parking lot traveling southbound on South Elm Street. Wickam attempted to turn back into the Speedway parking lot but failed to yield to Mahan, causing both vehicles to collide. Wickam was cited for failure to yield when turning left.

On Thursday, March 27, the Hillsboro Police Department responded to a Wal-Mart reference to a female that was being detained by Loss Prevention. Upon officer arrival, the female was identified as Karenda Stevel, 23, of Hillsboro. Loss Prevention reported that she selected some female clothing items and attempted to leave the business without paying for the store’s merchandise by concealing them on her person. The times were recovered. Stevel was charged with theft (M1) and was transported to the Highland County Justice Center.
