Pancake Supper


The Fall Creek Friends Church would like to invite everyone to our annual Pancake Supper, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8. The time will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. We will be serving pancakes or waffles, ham or sausage, and milk or coffee to drink. Come enjoy the food, the fun, and the fellowship. Everyone is welcome. The church is located at 11345 Karnes Rd., Hillsboro.


Blood drive at Brushcreek Township Fire Department


The Brushcreek Township Fire Department has partnered with Hoxworth Blood Center to host a community blood drive from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the fire department, 7 Washington St., Sinking Spring. To schedule an appointment, call Hoxworth Blood Center at 1-800-830-1091. Priority will be given to donors who have scheduled an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome and will be seen as soon as possible.


PERI meeting


The Highland County Chapter of Public Employees Inc. will meet at 10 a.m. Thurday, Feb. 13 at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center. Arlene Huffman will speak about the Highland County Historical Society.


Blood drive in Sardinia


The Sardinia Church of Christ has partnered with Hoxworth Blood Center to host a community blood drive Monday, Feb. 17 from 2 to 7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall, 7130 Bachman Road, Sardinia. To schedule an appointment, call Hoxworth at 1-800-830-1091. Priority will be given to donors who have scheduled an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome and will be seen as soon as possible.


Planning Commission meeting rescheduled


The monthly Highland County Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Feb. 18 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Hillsboro Firehouse Community Room at 204 N. East St.


Supper at Fruitdale United Methodist Church


The Fruitdale United Methodist Church will hold a pancake and sausage supper from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at the church on SR 41 south of Greenfield. A freewill donation will be accepted.


GBC Choir Rally


The College Choir of God’s Bible School & College, Cincinnati, will be performing Friday, Feb. 28, 7 p.m., at the South-Central Ohio GBS Choir Rally, Locust Grove Wesleyan Tabernacle. The tabernacle is located on State Route 41, Locust Grove. Rev. Richard Williams is the pastor and can be reached at 937/587-6275.


Brushcreek Life Squad pancake supper


The Brushcreek Life Squad will be having a pancake and sausage supper with an auction on Saturday, March 1. The supper will start at 5 p.m. and the auction will start at 7 p.m. at the Brushcreek Community Center, 31 Grand St., Sinking Spring. This is the annual fund raiser for the year. We are asking the merchants to donate an item for the auction.


Hillsboro financial audit available The financial audit for the city of Hillsboro is available for review online at the following address: https://ohioauditor.gov/auditsearch/Reports/2013/City_of_Hillsboro_12-Highland.pdf. In addition, copies will be available for review at the Highland County District Library and the Highland County Chamber of Commerce.


Laundry supplies donations The Highland County Homeless Shelter, 145 Homestead Ave., Hillsboro, is accepting donations for February of laundry supplies. Please drop off donations at the shelter from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. or call for more information.


Hospice volunteers needed


Hospice volunteers are needed throughout Adena Health System’s service region. Adena Hospice volunteers provide services ranging from helping in the office, providing information at health fairs, delivering dinners to families, running errands, calling patients about upcoming events, and sitting with patients to relieve caregivers. Adena Hospice offers services to people with life-limiting illnesses in Ross, Pickaway, Hocking, Vinton, Jackson, Pike, Highland and Fayette counties.


To become a volunteer, you must be at least 14 years of age, and commit to four hours of service each month. To learn more call 740-779-4663.


Senior tax assistance


AARP volunteers will be at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center starting in February on Mondays and Tuesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free tax service can answer most of the tax issues faced by low and moderate income taxpayers, with special attention to those ages 60 and older. Call the senior center to make your appointment at 393-4745. Appointments are limited.


Free tax help


Free tax help and preparation service, run by volunteers, will be available at the Georgetown Senior Center every Wednesday during February and March starting Feb. 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the present time there is not an office in West Union area so you can call Georgetown for appointment at 937-378-6603 or the Highland Couny Senior Citizens Center at 937-393-4745 Highland County is on Monday and Tuesday starting Feb 3.


Alzheimer’s seminar at the Senior Center


Wednesday, March 5, 1 p.m. the Alzheimer’s Association will present “Making Nursing Home Visits More Meaningful” at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center in Hillsboro. For more information, please call 937-779-6990.


Best of the Best Basketball tournaments


Best of the Best Basketball will be hosting several basketball tournaments in Tiffin for boys and girls in grades four through eight. The Tiffin University Spring Shootout will be March 8-9. the Heidelberg Tournament will be played on March 22 and 23 and the Dragon Shootout will be held on May 17-18.
