Three local athletes recently attended the USA Team Training Camp at the USA Olympic Training Center at Bela and Marta Karolyi’s Ranch near Houston, Texas.
Hillsboro Senior Jayme Maynard, Blanchester Junior Kiley Allen and Wilmington sixth-grader Grace Vance were selected for the USA Gymnastics National Age Group Development Team after their stellar performance competing as a Level 10 Trio at the USA Gymnastics Championships this past June in Providence, R.I.
The USA Gymnastics AGDT is a team of up-and-coming acrobatic gymnasts who have the potential to represent the United States in international competition in the next 12-24 months.
The training camp was an opportunity for the trio and their coaches, Angie Layne and Taylor Coombs, to learn the best skills, drills and technique from top clinicians in the United States.
Clinicians included former World Champions Ivaylo Katsov and Michael Rodriquez, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Choreographer Christian Minnicks and many others.
Although the athletes did get to meet Bela and Marta Karolyi, the Karolyis did not serve as clinicians. The Karolyis recently retired and sold a portion of their ranch to USA Gymnastics to become the official USA Olympic Training Center for Gymnastics.
“The trip to the USA Olympic Training Center for the AGDT Training Camp was an amazing experience for our athletes and coaches,” said coach Angie Layne. “We all learned new methods and training ideas that will help not just the trio but all our athletes at Aerial’s. I look forward to seeing the amazing things that this trio will accomplish in the next few months. Jayme, Kiley, and Grace were complimented often on their great attitudes, work ethic and willingness to learn. They represented their schools, families, and communities very well! I’m very proud of each of them.”
