The McClain Lady Tigers golf team dominates the MT Lady Panthers in FAC opener

The McClain Lady Tigers traveled to The Greens in Washington Court House on Wednesday to participate in their first ever Frontier Athletic Conference (FAC) match against the Miami Trace Lady Panthers. The Lady Tigers claimed the road victory by a huge margin of 51 strokes for a final team score of 220 – 271.

The victory improved the Lady Tigers’ record to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in FAC play.

Elissa Grate and Bryn Karnes were co-medalists for the match with both shooting 54 on the day. The Lady Tigers were remarkably consistent as a team with Kendall Pollard who shot a 55, Erika Martin who carded a 57, Bri Weller who contributed a 58, and Cassidy Willis rounded out the effort with a score of 61.

The Lady Panthers were led in scoring by Tanner Bryant who ended the day with an overall score of 59. Bryant was also the only Lady Panther in the top six in scoring as she shot two strokes better than Willis’ 61.

Miami Trace was also represented at the match by Maddi Wallace who shot a 66, Shelbie Rowan who finished with a 69, Bridget Perkins with a 77, and Taylor Perkins who rounded out the scoring with an 81.

Lady Tigers’ head golf coach Jarrod Haines praised the efforts of all the girls when he said, “The girls are getting better, shaving strokes off their scores and putting us in a better position to compete.” Haines also praised Grate and Carnes saying, “Elissa and Bryn each had a great day for us.”

The Lady Tigers will be in action again next Tuesday, August 15, when they host the Hillsboro Lady Indians at Buckeye Hills Country Club in FAC competition.
