Hillsboro go 1-3 for weekend

HILLSBORO- Hillsboro Mavericks senior baseball program had a strong showing but went 1-3 overall in the wooden bat tournament held at Richard Shaffer Park on June 19-20 of the three day tournament, Portsmouth Post 23 came out as overall champions of the tournament.

“Overall it was a good weekend of baseball.” said Coach Scott Morgan

The Mavericks came battling back from being behind five runs against the Chillicothe 757 Colts in just the first inning of the game but fell 7-6 in the first game in play.

Piqua took the second game on Friday by storm and overpowered the Hillsboro team 10-3, the Mavericks could make a comeback in the game.

With Luke Magulac pitching, he struck out 12 batters and walked none along with only allowing one scored one in the 3 hits. The Mavericks earned their only win of the week tournament against the Troy Bombers in a 8-1 victory to start Saturday morning at Shaffer Park.

Portsmouth ultimately dominated the Mavericks to end Hillsboro’s tournament run, 14-5 was the final score of the last game for Hillsboro this past weekend.

“The end results were not what we wanted, but we have seen a lot of improvement in just a week of playing baseball. I look forward for good things to come in the next few weeks.”
