Hillsboro bowlers finish 8th in state

The Hillsboro High School boys bowling team finished eighth last weekend at the 2023 Division I OHSAA State Bowling Tournament held at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

Team regulation and baker totals, the later in parenthesis, in the qualifying rounds were: Hilliard Davidson 3006 (3718), Mason 3044 (3710), Beavercreek 3029 (3706), Ashland 3030 (3647), Kettering Fairmont 3026 (3613), Macedonia Nordonia 3049 (3576), Wapakoneta 2914 (3447), Hillsboro 2866 (3399), North Canton Hoover 2843 (3397), Amherst Steele 2760 (3283), Westerville Central 2797 (3269), Tallmadge 2713 (3263), Avon Lake 2764 (3255), Sunbury Big Walnut 2799 (3252), Stow-Munroe Falls 2655 (3229) and Thornville Sheridan 2728 (3197).

The top eight teams advanced to the championship round where No. 8 seed Hillsboro was paired against No. 1 seed Hilliard Davidson. Hilliard Davidson rolled individual totals of 181, 181, 244 and 246 for an 892 total. Hillsboro rolled individual totals of 187, 149, 202 and 169 for a 707 total, which eliminated the Indians from the championship round.

The top eight teams in the state, in order of finish, were: Beavercreek, Kettering Fairmont, Hilliard Davidson, Mason, Ashland, Macedonia Nordonia, Wapakoneta and Hillsboro.

Individually, Hillsboro’s top finisher was senior Zach Ison, who rolled games of 228, 220 and 181 for a 629 total in the qualifying rounds to place him 22nd among 98 bowlers.

Sophomore Andrew Tomko finished 46th, senior Shaun Rodgers 47th, junior Kayden Gall 48th and sophomore Austin Bledsoe 74th. Their totals in the qualifying rounds were: Tomko 212, 192, 180 for 584; Rodgers 196, 189, 196 for 581; Gall 201, 199, 179 for 579; and Bledsoe 174, 161, 158 for 493.
