Hillsboro claims Division I district bowling title

The Hillsboro boys bowling team captured the 2023 Division I District Championship Bowling Tournament title March 2 at Beaver-Vu Lanes in Beavercreek.

Hillsboro finished 27 pins better than runner-up and homestanding Beavercreek in the 24-team field.

The Indians had two bowlers finish in the top ten among 116 participants. Senior Zach Ison rolled 204, 222, 277 for a 703 total that gave him a district runner-up finish, just eight pins behind district champion Jacob Terpenning of Beavercreek who finished with a 711.

Hillsboro senior Shaun Rodgers rolled a 221, 205, 234 for a 660 total that left him in ninth place.

Other Hillsboro scores were: sophomore Austin Bledsoe (32nd) 211, 201, 195 for 607; junior Kayden Gall (33rd) 155, 218, 232 for 605; and sophomore Andrew Tomko (55th) 167, 206, 203 for 576.

Team scores were Hillsboro 4357, Beavercreek 4330, Kettering Fairmont 4283, Mason 4139, Fairfield 4043, Centerville 4013, Lebanon 3972, LaSalle 3969, Turpin 3951, Sidney 3943, Troy 3878, Northwest 3838, Batavia 3808, West Clermont 3764, St. Xavier 3748, Miami Trace 3741, Stebbins 3737, Springboro 3732, Monroe 3719, Elder 3707, Loveland 3670, Tecumseh 3629, Milford 3542 and Hamilton 3502.

The victory earned the Indians the right to participate in the state tournament Friday and Saturday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
