A Greenfield man lost his life Wednesday in a motorcycle accident on Fairfield Road near Leesburg.

The Wilmington Ohio State Highway Patrol Post said Jeffrey L. Taylor, 28, was killed after losing control of the Yamaha FZR6 motorcycle he was driving early in the evening.

The accident took place on Fairfield Road, just north of Rollinson Lane in Fairfield Township, Highland County.

The state patrol said a preliminary investigation revealed that Taylor was driving northbound on Fairfield Road, lost control of the motorcycle as he crested a hill, and traveled off the left side of the roadway. Taylor struck a mailbox post and was ejected from the motorcycle.

The Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District based in Leesburg responded to the scene. Medics attempted life-saving techniques on Taylor, but were unsuccessful. Taylor sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the state patrol said.

Taylor was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Speed appears to be a factor in the crash and at this time there is no evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved, according to the state patrol.

The Highland County coroner, Highland County Sheriff’s Office, and Leesburg Police Department responded to the scene to assist.

The crash remains under investigation.
