Family Fun & Movie Night

The Leesburg United Methodist Church will present an outdoor Family Fun & Movie Night on Friday, Aug. 21, featuring the movie “Big Hero 6.” The event is free. Activities will begin at 8 p.m. on the grounds of LUMC, located at 117 Church Stree in Leesburg. Bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. Movie begins at sunset. All minors must be accompanied by a parent/adult for the evening. There will be fun activities, hot dogs, popcorn, sodas, cookies, and a free drawing for a movie package for a family of four at Star Cinemas in Hillsboro.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal will be held at the Greenfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, Aug. 29. Serving will be from 4 to 4:30 p.m. The menu will be chicken salad sandwiches, baked beans, peaches/cake.

Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On free meal will be offered Saturday Aug. 29 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise is at 4:30 p.m. Dinner, eat-in only, is served from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be chicken patties served on a bun, vegetable medley, applesauce, assorted drinks, pies, cake and ice cream.

Upcoming dates for St. Mary Catholic School

St. Mary Catholic School and Patch of Heaven Preschool will start classes Wednesday, Aug.19. The 4-year-old students and grades K-5 will start Wednesday and the 3-year-olds start Thursday, Aug. 20. The preschool hours are 8:45-3:15 and the elementary hours are 8:45-3:30. Doors open at 8:30. Before and after care is available to all students.

Open house will be held Monday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. in the school hall. Uniform swap days are Aug. 6-7 from 9-3 and Monday, Aug. 10 from 6-7 p.m.

Old Timers Days 5K Run/Walk

The Christian Missionary Fellowship Church is again hosting the Old Timers Days 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Sept. 19. Registration begins at 7 am. and the event starts at 8 a.m. at the old Malcom Car Lot, 217 Rarden Rd., Peebles. A $20 entry fee includes a T-shirt and runner and walker categories are based on age ranges. CMF helps build churches in other parts of the world with the money raised.
