Updated: 6 transported from North Shore wreck

A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of North Shore Drive and Beechwood Road in the Rocky Fork Lake area sent multiple passengers, including children, to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

Of the five people flown by helicopter following the crash, four were children. Three were flown directly from the scene of the accident.

According to Paint Creek Public Information Officer Branden Jackman, Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District personnel received a call about the crash at 1:47 p.m.

A 2006 Subaru SUV driven by Rebecca Williamson, 33, of Peebles, was eastbound on Beechwood Road when Williamson failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of North Shore Drive, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Wilmington Post. Her vehicle was t-boned by a Ford F250 pickup truck driven by Robert Brogan, 68, of Hillsboro, who was northbound on North Shore Drive.

The state patrol said it did not know the names of the children or their ages because the investigating officer had not spoken to Williamson as of late Thursday night. She was flown to University of Cincinnati Hospital after originally being transported to Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro. She was listed in stable condition Thursday evening, the state patrol said.

The condition of the children in Williamson’s car was not known, but the state patrol said it did not believe any injuries had resulted in fatalities.

The lone passenger in the pickup truck was Cheryl Brogan, 64, of Hillsboro.

Units responded from both Paint Creek’s Hillsboro and Rainsboro stations, and while in route emergency personnel received information “that there were significant injuries, multiple people hurt and that all occupants of the vehicles were out of their vehicles under their own power,” Jackman said in a press release.

A witness at the scene said she helped one boy out of a SUV.

Jackman said first responders found a “t-bone type accident” involving an SUV and a full-sized pickup truck.

He said that additional ambulances were dispatched to the scene, including units from Greenfield as well as mutual aid provided by Lynchburg.

One occupant of the truck was transported to Highland District Hospital with minor injuries, Jackman said. Another occupant of the truck refused treatment.

Three of the occupants of the SUV were airlifted from the scene “due to the critical nature of their injuries,” Jackman said. Two more occupants of the SUV were airlifted from Highland District Hospital following evaluation of their injuries.

Jackman said that while the occupants of the truck reported seat belt usage, the same was not reported for the occupants of the SUV.

Assisting on scene was the Highland County Sherriff’s Office, Rocky Fork State Park personnel, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is handling the investigation.

The state patrol said the accident remains under investigation and that alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to have been a factor.
